Senior Accountant, New York, NY

Wells Group is seeking a Senior Accountant with 1-5 years experience in practical accounting.  Wells Group is a boutique management consulting firm offering CFO (finance & accounting) and COO (strategy & operations) advisory for startups and mid-sized companies. Our engagements range in scope and span across multiple industries, including consumer goods & services, healthcare, and tech, among others. We run extremely flat and are looking for someone that can not only execute, but become a core member of our team and contribute to the mission, vision, and culture both at Wells Group and for our clients. This is a salaried full-time position.

The job will be a mix of practical accounting (e.g. financial reporting), operations, and analytical tasks. Excellent potential for growth based on performance and motivation.


What You’ll Do:

 

  • Manage period-end close for multiple companies across different industries

  • Develop and enforce robust closing procedures

  • Create and maintain account reconciliation workpapers to support financial statements

  • Perform budget vs. actual variance analysis and help clients recognize business trends

  • Fix, improve and/or create financial statements and related processes for high-growth start-ups

  • Assist team with ad hoc analysis and deliverables – including financial model development and actualization, cash flow forecasting, periodic financial performance dashboards, system integration support, account analysis using high volume transaction data, etc.


What You’ll Bring:
 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in finance, business, or accounting; CPA preferred

  • Ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings effectively to clients

  • Strong accounting and finance knowledge and skills, including financial statement preparation

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite with emphasis on Excel

  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g. Quickbooks, Xero, Netsuite)

  • A passion to work and partner with start-ups and mid-size companies that need direction and advisement as they grow

  • Ability to develop professional relationships with executives at varying levels within the business

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing

  • Someone who can execute well and flourish in an entrepreneurial environment

  • Skilled multi-tasker who is reliable and committed to meeting deadlines

Wells Group is seeking an entry level Analyst to join our team in Manhattan, New York. Wells Group is a boutique management consulting firm offering CFO, COO, and CPA advisory for startups and mid-sized companies. Our engagements range in scope and span across multiple industries, including contemporary art, retail, consumer goods & services, healthcare, and tech. We run extremely flat and are looking for someone that can not only execute, but become a core member of our team and contribute to the mission, vision, and culture both at Wells Group and for our clients. This is a salaried full-time position.

We are looking for someone:

You'll be expected to be very, very good at:
 

  • Working with executives to execute on client engagements, including managing timelines, responsibilities, and liaising with clients

  • Defining and iterating on operational processes

  • Solutioning with clients to improve strategy & operations

  • Managing complex projects under tight timelines while communicating and working actively with the company's founders and people across the entire Wells Group team

  • Assisting with various other operational tasks as required

The minimum requirements are:

  • BA/BS degree

  • Demonstrated project management and timeline management skills

  • Proficient in excel and PowerPoint


Some extra credit that we'd love to see:

  • Prior internship experience at a startup or in finance/consulting
